Description
McNeal Hall, Saint Paul Campus
has gotten a lot of attention and good press. I've been wanting to go back to this gallery, this exhibit was suggest by several members as one they would like to see. We will have a guided tour plus have the opportunity to discuss the exhibit with the curator. Because the gallery is very small, I have been asked to limit the number of participants to 20. So this is another one of those times that it is imperative that you sign up only if you really plan to come and if your plans change, you need to change your RSVP in plenty of time so that someone on the wait list will have be able to take your place. If the wait list is long I will schedule a second tour. There will be a $7.00 charge for our guided tour. I will collect the admission from each person and will make one payment for the group.
Plan to meet in the lounge area on the third floor by 1:45. Our tour is scheduled for 2:00. No shows really make us look bad and are unfair to everyone.
Character in Costume: A Jack Edwards Retrospective
This exhibition will feature dozens of refined costume sketches, photographs, press clippings, playbills, reviews, and 30 actual costumes designed by Edwards.
In a diverse 50-year career that included New York City, Santa Fe, Hollywood, and Minneapolis, Edwards (a master costume designer) designed memorable consumes for solo performers, opera, Broadway plays, television, Minneapolis' Guthrie Theatre, Hollidazzle Parade, and Dayton's holiday events.
In the hands of a designer such as Edwards, a performer's stage identity is made visible through costume, hair, and accessories, so that the character he or she portrays is understood by the audience.
If I remember correctly, there is free parking on the streets around the design building.
As always, we will gather at a near by restaurant afterward. Please plan to join us. I can promise a good time and intellectual and stimulating conversation. (well, maybe not so intellectual!) I will post where and soon as I figure where that will be, and I will send out an email. If you can't make the exhibit, consider joining us at the restaurant.
Just in case our Spring like weather turns to winter again and driving conditions are unsafe, I will reschedule. Please check back here if there is any question and be sure to check your email, because I will send out a notice.
