I Street: Writing Class: Writing Fiction for Young Adults: A Workshop

When

  • 6:00 PM - 8:30 PM

Description

With the surge in popularity of YA fiction, it may seem that it's easy to crank out a book for young adult readers. But good YA fiction is an art form just like any other type of fiction, and it requires building your writer's toolbox and learning the craft. In this workshop, we will study YA fiction that goes beyond the scope of being simply about a popular topic, and we'll focus on writing character-driven, language-conscious fiction that explores what it means to "grow up."

Melanie Thorne writes and teaches creative writing. Her novel, Hand Me Down, will be released in April 2012 (Dutton) and has been nominated for a YALSA YA crossover award. She earned her M.A. in Creative Writing from UC Davis, where she won the Maurice Prize in fiction.
