Description
The funny and poignant gospel musical CROWNS will have a 4-performance run at Christ Church Cathedral Jan 26-27 and Feb. 9-10, 2012. Written by Regina Taylor, CROWNS is based on the book of photos and interviews, "Crowns: Portraits of Black Women in Church Hats," by Michael Cunningham and Craig Marberry. It is a musical tribute to church hats and the African American women for whom they are both symbolic crowns and as a means for self-expression -- their pride, beauty and endurance -- in the presence of God.
Acclaimed musical producer/director Ted Swindley will co-direct with Mary McCallum of SistaStyle Productions. The cast features Tomiko Robinson, Theola Futch, Dajuana Hammond, Charletta (CJ) Jordan, LaToya Gardner, Naeaidrai Callihan and Nick Oldham. Randy Craft is musical director and Roxy Rogers is designing the costumes.
