Description

The Morris Museum of Art today announced the 2011-2012 lineup for its popular Budweiser True Music Southern Soul & Song concert series. It includes six concerts, scheduled monthly from September 2011 though February 2012.

This is one of the things we most enjoy doing at the Morris, said Kevin Grogan, producer of Southern Soul & Song and director of the Morris Museum of Art. Bringing great Southern music and great Southern musicians to Augusta and introducing a local audience to another aspect of our common cultural heritage is completely consistent with the mission of the Morris.

The 2011-2012 lineup includes the following bands:

Friday, September 16, 2011
Marty Stuart and his Fabulous Superlatives. Grammy award-winning, multi-instrumentalist Marty Stuart, one of country music's most accomplished and eclectic performers, is renowned for merging rockabilly, honky-tonk and traditional country styles.

Friday, October 14, 2011
Pam Tillis. Singer/songwriter/actress (and daughter of country star Mel Tillis), Pam Tillis is known for the hits she's written for others, as well as those—like All the Good Ones Are Gone—she's reserved for herself. She made her debut on the Grand Ole Opry at age 8 and has been a member of the Opry since 2002. This is her first appearance on Southern Soul and Song.

Friday, November 18, 2011
Russell Moore and IIIrd Tyme Out, Special Guest Nu Blu. The pride of Cumming, Georgia, Russell Moore and IIIrd Tyme Out have released 11 albums and 2 greatest hits collections over the past 20 years. They have won many honors including the International Bluegrass Music Association's Vocal Group of the Year award several times. Nu Blu, a great new band that has just been named Country Band of the Year by the Carolina Music Awards, brings a dynamic edge to traditional bluegrass. This is the first appearance by both bands in Augusta.

Friday, December 16, 2011
Michael Cleveland and Flamekeeper, Special Guest Dale Ann Bradley. IBMA's 4-time Instrumental Group of the Year is joined by IBMA's 3-time Female Vocalist of the Year for an unforgettable evening of traditional music. Mike is one of the greatest fiddle players of our time, and Dale Ann has been hailed by Alison Krauss and Ricky Skaggs as the greatest voice in bluegrass. This is the first appearance by both in Augusta.

Friday, January 20, 2012
Mountain Heart with Tony Rice. Back by popular demand, one of the most recognized and awarded acoustic bands of recent years, Mountain Heart returns to the series with legendary guitarist Tony Rice. Widely acclaimed—they have been nominated 5 times as IBMA's Entertainers of the Year and each band member has been honored for his own instrumental prowess—Mountain Heart has been one of the most popular attractions on this series since its beginning.

Friday, February 10, 2012
Rhonda Vincent and The Rage Recognized by the IBMA as its Female Vocalist of the Year a record 7 times, she is one of the most in-demand artists in bluegrass and one of the most popular artists ever to have appeared on the Southern Soul and Song series.
