“…[A] fresh and innovative show…the distinction between dancer and musician, between electronic and acoustic, fades…When “ETM: Double Down” is rocking, Dorrance Dance is one big band”
MacArthur “Genius” and “one of the most imaginative tap choreographers working today” (The New Yorker), Michelle Dorrance, in collaboration with Nicholas Van Young, and Dorrance Dance upend questions of tap’s cultural relevance, through innovative, tap choreography with a let-it-all-hang-out style and locomotive foot speed.
Three musicians, one B-girl (2016 Bessie Award nominee Ephrat “Bounce “Asherie) and seven ace tap dancers, deliver ETM(“electronic tap music”): Double Down, a performance where dancers simultaneously perform the choreography and create the music. Utilizing wooden floors, traditional instruments, and Nicholas Van Young’s (STOMP cast member) award-winning electronic tap dance floors – the entire stage becomes an instrument.
This collaborative performance is set to live music created by vocalist Aaron Marcellus, bassist Greg Richardson and pianist Donovan Dorrance.
