Exploring the Food of the Ancient Americas

Come and enjoy an evening experiencing the art and cuisine of the ancient Americas. Before dinner, view the exhibition Exploring Art of the Ancient Americas: The John Bourne Collection when the gallery is closed to the public. Ted Fischer, professor of anthropology and director of the Center for Latin American Studies at Vanderbilt University, shares his insights about selected objects in the exhibit. Then, enjoy an authentic five-course dinner, where Mareike Sattler, senior lecturer in the Department of Anthropology at Vanderbilt University and instructor of K'iche’ Mayan, explains the historical and social significance of the foods and drinks selected for each course.
