About Ruth & the Retrospective
Ruth Laxson began her career as a student at the Atlanta College of Art in 1958. Today, with her work included in such prestigious collections as those of MOMA, The Tate Museum and Rhode Island School of Design, she is known around the world as a pioneer in the field of the handmade artist book. The breadth of Ruth Laxson’s work spans over four decades. Merging text and image using a variety of printmaking techniques combined with drawing and writing, the resulting works have been described as whimsical doodling, fine spidery lines, automatic writing and pattern poetry. Co-curated by Marcia Wood and Jo Anne Pascal, this exhibition will present nearly all of Laxson’s hand-made artist books, as well as a large number of her prints, drawings, paintings, letter art, and sculptures.
